Instruction for Authors
Manuscript Submission
Iḥyāʾ al-ʿUlūm is a peer-reviewed, annual trilingual research journal published by the Department of Qur'an & Sunnah, University of Karachi. The journal welcomes original, unpublished, and high-quality scholarly contributions in the fields of Islamic Studies and related disciplines. Manuscripts are accepted in English, Urdu, and Arabic and should be submitted through the journal's online submission system.
Authors are requested to ensure that their manuscripts comply with the following guidelines before submission.
General Guidelines

Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration by any other journal or publisher.

The journal accepts manuscripts in English, Urdu, and Arabic.

Manuscripts should be prepared in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format.
-
The recommended length of the manuscript is 3,000–12,000 words, including references.
-
Manuscripts should be typed on A4-sized paper using Times New Roman, 12-point font, with single line spacing. Arabic and Urdu manuscripts should use clear Unicode fonts.

Authors must ensure that the language is grammatically correct and academically appropriate.

Manuscripts must follow the Chicago Manual of Style (17th Edition), Notes and Bibliography System.

Arabic Qur'anic verses, Hadith references, and transliterations should be presented accurately and consistently.
Manuscript Preparation
Each manuscript should contain the following:

Title of the Article

Abstract (150–250 words)

Five to Ten Keywords

Introduction

Literature Review

Research Methodology (where applicable)

Results and Discussion

Conclusion

References / Bibliography
Review articles and case studies may adopt an appropriate structure according to their nature.
Title Page
A separate title page must be submitted containing:

Double-Blind Peer Review
To maintain the integrity of the peer-review process:

The manuscript file must not contain the author's name or any identifying information.
-
Author details should appear only on the separate title page.
-
All submissions undergo an initial editorial screening followed by a double-blind peer-review conducted by experts in the relevant field.

Authors may be requested to revise their manuscripts in light of reviewers' comments before final acceptance.
Abstract and Keywords
The abstract should briefly describe:

Purpose of the study

Research methodology
-
Major findings
-
Original contribution
-
Practical or theoretical significance
The abstract should not contain citations or unexplained abbreviations.
Authors should provide five to ten keywords that accurately reflect the content of the manuscript.
Citation and References

The journal follows the Chicago Manual of Style (17th Edition), Notes and Bibliography System.

References should be cited through numbered footnotes and accompanied by a complete bibliography at the end of the manuscript.

Authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all citations and references.
Ethical Standards
Authors must ensure that:

The manuscript is entirely original.
-
All sources are properly acknowledged.
-
The work is free from plagiarism and research misconduct.
-
All listed authors have made significant scholarly contributions.
-
The manuscript has been approved by all co-authors before submission.
-
Any funding sources or potential conflicts of interest have been fully disclosed.
The journal adheres to the ethical guidelines and publication policies prescribed by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan and internationally accepted standards of scholarly publishing.
Plagiarism Policy
All submitted manuscripts are screened using plagiarism-detection software.
The similarity index must remain within the limits prescribed by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. Manuscripts exceeding the permissible similarity threshold or containing evidence of plagiarism will be rejected without further consideration.
Copyright
Upon acceptance for publication, authors agree to transfer the copyright of their manuscript to Iḥyāʾ al-ʿUlūm. The journal retains the copyright of all published articles in both print and electronic formats.
Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce any copyrighted material included in their manuscripts. The opinions and views expressed in published articles are solely those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Editorial Board, the Department of Qur'an & Sunnah, or the University of Karachi.
No part of any published article may be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system, or transmitted in any form or by any means without the prior written permission of the Editor-in-Chief, except as permitted under applicable copyright laws.
Submission Checklist
Before submitting your manuscript, please ensure that:

Editorial Decision
The Editorial Board reserves the right to:

Accept the manuscript for publication.

Request minor or major revisions.

Reject the manuscript if it falls outside the scope of the journal or fails to meet the required academic, ethical, or editorial standards.
The decision of the Editorial Board shall be final.
