Al-Imam al-Nasafī: And his methodology in the Tafsīr Madārik al-Tanzīl wa Haqa’iq al-Ta’wīl

Abstract

The first interpreter of Quran were the companion of Muhammadﷺwho themselves witnessed the prophethood. After them, the Tabiean, then the Taba-Tabiean and the scholars of  ummah have made great contribution  to the interpretation of the Holy Qur'an. Among these interpreter Abul Barakat Abdullah bin Mahmud Al-Nasafi (deceased 710 AH) has great contribution in Tafseer. His Tafseer Madarik ul-Tanzeel wa Haqaiq ul-Taweel which is known as Tafseer Nasafi. Imam Nasafi is an expert in all the areas of religion. In his Tafseer, he addressed  the different aspects like the points of fecundity, the issues of theology, literary discussions, grammatical reasoning, mention of the  jurists thoughts  and their arguments. This article covers some aspects of Imam Nasafi's Tafseer Madarik Al-Tanzeel, the methodology of Imam Nasafi and his style of interpretation.
